What is Masters Swimming?
Masters are classed as any swimmer over the age of 25yrs. Swimmers between 18-25yrs are classed as Seniors but masters swimming is open to all ages. It doesn’t matter how old you are you will always be welcome - some master’s swimmers are over the age of 100!
The masters’ motto: ‘Fitness, Friendship & Fun’
Masters don’t have to compete but if you do there are many different types and levels of competitions available to senior and masters’ swimmers. These vary from local competitions in Derby or Nottingham, to Midlands in Leamington Spa, up to National and International meets. To enable masters to compete against people of their own ability they are split into 5 yr age bands. i.e. 25-29yrs, 30-34yrs, 35-39yrs and so on. We also compete as a county twice a year against other counties.
Leicestershire promotes participation in swimming no matter who you are or how old you are. There are many clubs throughout the county who have either separate masters training or welcome masters in their normal training sessions. If you are thinking about starting to swim as a master just go along to your nearest club and ask what training is on offer. If you would like more information or to talk to a master’s swimmer please feel free to contact David Strachan, Leicestershire Masters Team manager by emailing email@example.com
