Rules for claiming a Leicestershire A.S.A. Record                                                                                                                                                   Back

  1. All records will be recognised for men and women, for long and short course and for masters/senior age group, open and junior age classification. The age groups for the masters/senior classifications are as determined by the ASA. The open classification will have no age limits; in the junior classification the swimmer must be under 16 years of age on the day of the swim.
  2. Records may only be made in galas provided that the officials are registered with the ASA and are qualified in the capacity in which they are officiating.
  3. Records made at National, Regional and Leicestershire ASA levels will be accepted on application.
  4. Records made at Licensed galas will only be accepted if the application is accompanied by a copy of the official results sheet for the gala OR the swimmer’s time card duly signed by the Referee.
  5. Records made at other galas must have the signature of the Referee to confirm the time recorded and that all officials are registered as in 2 above. Two timekeepers shall be sufficient when using hand held electronic timers.
  6. A swimmer claiming a record must, at the time of the swim, be an ASA registered member of a club affiliated to The Association and has been so for a period of not less than 60 days immediately prior to the swim.

a) A swimmer in an individual event may apply for a record at an intermediate distance if he, his coach or manager requests the Referee that his performance be timed at that distance which must be from the start of the event. The swimmer must complete the scheduled distance of the event without disqualification.

b) The first swimmer in a relay event may apply for a record over the distance of his leg if he, his coach or manager requests the Referee that his performance be timed at that distance. Such performance shall not be nullified by any disqualification of his team or team members occurring after his leg is completed.

c) The signature of the Gala Referee must be obtained to confirm that notification was duly given prior to the attempt. (The use of he/his shall apply equally to she/her.)
