Development Camps

Leicestershire & Rutland ASA supports the wider Swim England National Development Strategy by running 2 Swim Camps each year for swimmers aged 11 years.

Selection for these camps is based on swimmer rankings at the end of each swimming season (just after the National Championships which are usually held in July/August each year).

Based on pool space LASA invites 36 swimmers (nominally 18 boys & 18 girls) based on their ranking with Swim England.

The list below is the order used for selection:

200m Individual Medley Long Course
200m Individual Medley Short Course
100m Individual Medley Short Course
200m Free & Form Stroke Long or Short Course

Each camp includes 2 pool sessions, land training, nutrition, hydration and good training practices on each day. There is usually a gap of at least a month between each camp.

The Coaches for this Camp are selected from the Clubs within Leicestershire & Rutland and any Club Coach from a club within the Association can attend to observe.

Feedback is provided to base Club Head Coaches on each swimmers achievements during each camp along with areas for future development.

Parents are also involved as a briefing seminar takes place at the end of each day on the Swim England Development Structure which is followed by a Q&A session on anything swimming related.
From the age of 12 years, selected swimmers (again based on their National Ranking) are invited to Regional and then National Camps. Coaches from the county are often involved in delivering these camps and they are then able to bring back new initiatives to try at a county level.

LASA is keen to involve as many Club Coaches from LASA Clubs and anyone interested in finding out more can email: development@leicestershireasa.org and further information can be provided
