Did you know LASA Age Groups and Championships includes a set of trophies specifically for swimmers aged 10-12 years?
These trophies referred to as LASACATs are aimed at swimmers under 13 years old, and are designed to give swimmers an idea of where they stand in relation to other swimmers of their own age group in the county over a number of strokes. Trophies are awarded to the top 10 swimmers in each age group per gender (Open/Male & Female).
Each swim receives points, based on World Aquatics (FINA) points. There are 5 categories covering each style of stroke and distance and the idea is to score points in each category giving an overall total. This will then be a good indicator as to their ranking by gender (Open/Male & Female) and age within the county.
The categories are:
Best Sprint - 50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, or Butterfly
Best 100m - 100m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, or Butterfly
Best Form – 200m Backstroke, Breaststroke or Butterfly
Best Distance - 200m, 400m, 800m or 1500m Freestyle
Best IM - 100m, 200m or 400m
When selecting the events you/your swimmer enters for the 2026 Competition give thought to entering enough events of the various strokes and distances so that the best from each category is counted towards their final LASACAT points tally.
The number of events that a swimmer can enter is dependent on their age; younger swimmers may not be able to enter the 100m events for example. The Entry Times document provides this information. Also, where possible, consider entering more than one event in a given category to mitigate against illness or disqualification. (When entering multiple events in a category, the best score is the one counted in the overall total, not a sum of the scores in a single category.)
